Mescaline
Mescaline HCl Capsules
The elder of the psychedelic lineage — the slow, warm, heart-opening cactus sacrament that returns you to the felt truth that you belong to other people and to the living world.
The oldest sacrament still in human hands
Mescaline (3,4,5-trimethoxyphenethylamine) is the oldest known psychedelic in continuous human use — San Pedro (Wachuma) archaeology runs roughly three millennia. Unlike the tryptamines psilocybin and LSD, mescaline is a phenethylamine, a chemical cousin of MDMA, and that lineage is written through the whole experience: a warm, MDMA-like body glow sitting beneath fully psychedelic colour and meaning.
It works primarily as an agonist at the serotonin 5-HT2A receptor — the shared master switch of every classic psychedelic — while also touching 5-HT1A and adrenergic alpha-2A. That extra adrenergic activity is what gives mescaline its gentle cardiostimulant body load, and what sets it apart from the cleaner tryptamines.
We carry the isolated salt in capsules, dosed in milligrams, sustainably sourced from cultivated San Pedro rather than the slow-growing, threatened peyote. Two truths to internalise before anything else: mescaline is very long (a full day, sometimes into the night), and it carries a real body load. Master those two and you master the rhythm of this sacrament.

The dose ladder
A dose measured in milligrams of pure mescaline is a different physical quantity from one measured in grams of cactus — never confuse them. With capsules you have the gift of precision. Start low, give the slow onset a full 90 minutes before considering more.
Whispers of the Spirit
A gentle glow, brighter colour, softened emotion and an opening of empathy. Perception, aesthetic appreciation and lateral thinking open without full ego loss.
The Open Path
The heart of the experience. Patterns shimmer, emotional release deepens, insight flows and connection to nature blooms. This is the classic working dose.
The Full Vision
The veil parts — immersive visuals, time dilation, the ego softens, old wounds surface to heal, unity expands. For prepared explorers with a sober sitter.
The Sacred Surrender
Complete immersion toward cosmic oneness and ego dissolution. Reserved for the experienced, guided and deeply respectful. Nausea climbs near the top of this band.
Salt math: 100 mg sulfate ≈ 89 mg HCl. There are no confirmed fatal mescaline overdoses in the literature, but stay well under 1000 mg — the real dangers are cactus-potency variance, severe nausea, and drug interactions.
What to expect
Mescaline is slow and long, and the length comes from a delayed onset and later peak — not a longer tail. In the 2023 Basel trial its mean duration was 11.1 hours, the longest of the classic psychedelics. Plan a full day and a clear next morning.
Come-up
A slow, dawning shift — warmth, tingling, flushing, yawning, a rising body energy that makes stillness hard. This is when the body load announces itself: queasiness and, with cactus, the cleansing purge. Threshold jitters are normal and soften once effects arrive.
Peak
Detailed, slow, organic visuals: breathing surfaces, saturated colour, flowing mosaics and spirals. The warm centre of mescaline — euphoria, empathy, gratitude, unconditional compassion and a felt sense that everything is alive and connected.
Return
A gentle, gradual descent into a reflective afterglow of meaning and openness. Expect a longer sub-acute tail than LSD or psilocybin — some lingering fatigue the next day. Clear the morning after for integration.
Becoming your best self
In a survey of 452 naturalistic users (Agin-Liebes 2021), 68–86% of those with a relevant condition reported lasting improvement in depression, anxiety, PTSD and substance use — predicted by the mystical and insight quality of the session, not merely the dose.
Connection & gratitude
Mescaline's signature. Its warm, prosocial, heart-forward character makes it perhaps the best classic psychedelic for repairing relational wounds, deepening empathy and dissolving isolation.
Healing & release
A well-prepared journey with intention, a sober sitter and real integration to meet trauma, depression, anxiety and addiction with clarity and compassion.
Spiritual practice
San Pedro is a living sacrament of established traditions; mescaline excels at the genuine awe and unity states that reorganise a sense of purpose.
Creativity & renewal
Light doses open perception, aesthetic appreciation and lateral thinking — long, gentle and idea-rich — without full ego loss.
The pharmacology, for the curious
Mescaline is the granddaddy phenethylamine — the molecule that taught modern science what a psychedelic even was. Here is what is actually happening under the vision, drawn from the 2023 Basel human-pharmacology study (Ley, Holze & Liechti) and the classic tolerance literature.
01The 5-HT2A master switch
Mescaline’s vision is driven by agonism at the cortical serotonin 5-HT2A receptor — the same master switch carried by LSD, psilocin and DMT. Activating it lifts glutamate signalling and reorganises large-scale brain networks. This is why mescaline shows full cross-tolerance with every other classic psychedelic: they all pull the same lever.
02Why the body speaks first
Unlike the cleaner tryptamines, mescaline also binds adrenergic α2A and 5-HT2B and carries a sympathomimetic, mildly cardiostimulant body load — the flush, the wide pupils, the early nausea. The Basel trial proved that nausea is serotonergic and dose-driven: the 5-HT2A blocker ketanserin cut vomiting from 6 of 16 volunteers to 1 of 16.
03A phenethylamine, not a tryptamine
Mescaline shares its backbone with the amphetamine/MDMA family rather than the tryptamines, and is partly broken down by monoamine oxidase. That single metabolic fact is why irreversible MAOIs are so dangerous here: inhibit MAO and you unpredictably amplify the dose, intensity and duration.
04One shared tolerance pool
Tolerance begins almost immediately through 5-HT2A downregulation — a full dose today means tomorrow’s is sharply blunted. Wolbach & Isbell (1962) showed people made tolerant to LSD were cross-tolerant to mescaline and back. Switching cactus species, or to isolated mescaline, does not escape it. Treat LSD, psilocybin, DMT and mescaline as one tolerance account.
Far out — from the circle
What the long desert arc actually feels like, in the words of people who have walked it. Reports are anonymised and shared for context — never as a dosing guide.
Eight hours of feeling like the desert itself was breathing with me. No fireworks — just an unhurried, total clarity, like someone wiped a window I didn’t know was dirty. I cried about my father, then laughed for an hour.
The come-up nausea was real, and then it passed, and I was just… home. Mescaline doesn’t shatter you the way mushrooms can. It sits beside you like an old grandfather and tells you the truth gently.
I went in tangled about a decision and came out the other side knowing. Not the high-knowing that fades — it’s still true three months later. The long arc is the gift: you have time to actually feel things all the way through.
Community reports, anonymised and shared for context and reverence. Every body and every journey is different — yours will be your own.
Safety first, always
Mescaline raises blood pressure and heart rate dose-dependently and is partly broken down by monoamine oxidase. A handful of combinations are genuinely dangerous — treat these as hard lines, not suggestions.

Honouring this sacrament
To work with mescaline is to take up the oldest sacrament humanity still holds. Peyote is slow-growing, vulnerable, and the federally protected covenant of the Native American Church — so we work only with cultivated San Pedro, which grows fast, propagates from cuttings and delivers the same molecule without drawing down a sacred and threatened being. Honour the molecule, honour the plant, and honour the cultures that have carried this medicine for millennia.
